YS COMPANY LIMITED

ABS Injection Molding for Multi-Part Consumer Electronics Housings

From approved prototypes to repeatable housing production

After three rounds of CNC prototypes, the structure of this compact device housing was largely finalized. The project then shifted from checking form and assembly to a different decision: how to build several ABS shell components consistently at production volume, finish their visible surfaces and deliver the order by sea.

YS Rapid coordinated production mold planning, ABS injection molding, specified mold texture, spray painting, screen printing and shipment to North America. For a product development company, the value of this arrangement is a quote and a release plan covering the finished housing set, rather than a mold price with decoration and freight left unresolved.

What the prototypes settle, and what the mold samples must prove

CNC samples helped the customer refine the housing geometry and assembly. They cannot establish how molded ABS will shrink, where a gate mark will land, or whether the chosen texture will release cleanly from the tool. Those are production decisions. Before cutting the mold, our review uses the approved CAD files, drawings and mating-part information to flag any proposed changes to the enclosure joint, button or display openings, attachment features and visible surfaces.

The first molded samples then give the customer a physical approval point for molded fit and appearance. If a change is required, the team can separate a process adjustment from a tool correction or a revision to the approved design. The production release is based on the customer's accepted sample and agreed inspection criteria.

How the four-cavity requirement is specified

A four-cavity tool can produce four copies of its assigned part in one molding cycle. This project contains multiple shell components, so the RFQ must state which part requires four cavities and how the remaining components will be tooled. A family mold containing different parts would be a separate design choice, subject to part size, resin, demand ratio and filling balance.

For a product development company comparing suppliers, the cavity plan affects tooling investment and the number of complete housing sets available per production run. Our quotation should identify each tool, its cavity count, the molded unit price and any assumptions about expected order volume. This makes the production economics easier to evaluate than a single blended price.

A finish that works as a system

The molded texture, painted areas and printed graphics must be specified together. A mold texture changes the surface itself; paint supplies the required color or visual effect; screen printing adds designated graphics. Texture depth and draft are reviewed together so the part can be released without dragging the visible surface. Paint coverage and print location are checked against assembly edges, openings and any surfaces that must stay uncoated.

For approval, the customer can provide a texture reference, color standard, artwork and a marked-up cosmetic drawing. We use those references to agree on the appearance of actual molded and decorated samples before the volume run. If a graphic crosses a highly curved area, the print method is checked against the artwork and geometry.

From molded shells to an export-ready order

Production planning covers molding, decoration, inspection, packing and freight booking. The inspection plan can focus on the enclosure joint, critical openings, painted appearance and printed position, with fit checks against supplied mating parts or agreed references. Packing instructions should define whether components ship by part number or as matched sets and how painted faces are protected.

YS Rapid coordinates the finished parts and arranges containerized ocean freight to the customer's North American destination. The shipping quotation should state the agreed trade term, destination, packing assumptions and whether freight is included, so purchasing can compare the delivered cost and schedule on the same basis as the tooling and unit prices.

Request a production molding quote

Send the final 3D CAD files and 2D drawings for every housing component, expected first-order and annual volumes, the part requiring four cavities, ABS grade or performance requirements, and the approved texture, paint and artwork references. Include the destination and any desired packaging layout. We can then return a tooling proposal, unit pricing by quantity, sample-approval steps, finishing scope and a shipment plan for your custom plastic enclosure production.
