For a housing with a prominent rounded head and long handle, a CAD rendering cannot fully show grip comfort, access to controls or the appearance of assembled joints. The 20 samples allowed the customer to hold the device, check the fit with mating components and review its visible finish before approving the tool design.
In this rapid prototyping process, a master pattern and silicone mold reproduce the housing in a cast polyurethane resin. US buyers often call this process urethane casting or urethane molding. Sanding and polishing prepared the curved surfaces and edges for paint; silk-screen printing added the specified markings. The process gave the product team a useful representation of the proposed appearance while the design was still being evaluated.
Material distinction: An ABS-like vacuum casting resin is not injection-molded ABS. These samples support checks of shape, assembly and visual finish; final material properties, molded dimensions and production coating performance need to be validated on the specified ABS grade and pilot parts.
With the sample design approved, YS Rapid moved to a design for manufacturability (DFM) review for custom plastic injection molding. For this type of enclosure, that review should resolve wall thickness, draft, fastening and alignment features, parting lines, gates and ejector positions. The appearance of the rounded head and grip also influences where tool marks and seams can be accepted. Changes affecting the approved exterior or mating fit require customer sign-off before tooling.
The custom mold then produced pilot ABS parts for dimensional and assembly checks. These first molded housings can reveal differences from the cast prototypes, including shrinkage, seam alignment and surface appearance. If painting and printed graphics are part of the production specification, the team can check their finish and placement on the molded parts before approving further production.
This sequence serves product development teams looking for a custom plastic enclosure manufacturer that can manage finished prototypes and the move to injection molded parts. YS Rapid coordinates the prototype finishing, tooling review and pilot molding within one project, with the customer's approved drawings and acceptance points guiding each stage.
For a custom massage device housing prototype or an urethane casting quote, send the 3D CAD model, 2D drawings, desired sample quantity, mating-part information, color reference and print artwork. For an ABS injection molding quote, also provide the production ABS grade or performance requirements, target order volume, pilot quantity and critical dimensions. If the design is still changing, identify the open decisions so they can be reviewed before the mold layout is finalized.
