The gently curved body has a distinct control area near the top and a joint around the lower housing. These visible transitions can look misaligned even if individual pieces measure acceptably. The CNC samples helped establish the intended shape; the mold review then concentrates on how the parts release, shrink and meet after injection molding.
We review the latest CAD files and drawings together with the customer's approved prototype or appearance sample. The discussion covers the housing joint, any fastening and locating features in the CAD model, the position of control openings, parting lines, gate marks and ejector locations. If a tooling change affects an external contour or a mating feature, it is submitted for customer approval before the mold is cut.
The resin grade and functional requirements are confirmed against the customer's specification.
At just over 200 sets per order, the upfront mold cost matters. The project uses lower-cost, low-volume injection molds sized to the planned repeat orders, reducing the initial tooling investment compared with a more elaborate mold specification. Tool construction and cavity count are still selected for the actual part geometry, order frequency and expected total volume; the quotation states the proposed arrangement and prices each housing component.
The approximate mold-making time is 40 days after the final part files and mold specification are approved. Mold trials, sample approval, painting, production and international transit are separate scheduling steps. We present these milestones when quoting so the customer's launch team can evaluate the full delivery path rather than mistake the tool-build period for the time to receive finished parts.
The mold cavities are polished to the agreed surface finish on specified areas. We identify the visible regions and finish reference before tool finishing, then review the first molded samples for surface marks and fit. The finish level is agreed from the customer's appearance requirements rather than assumed to be a mirror polish.
The outer parts are spray painted to the customer's specified color. Color approval is best made on a finished physical sample, since molded substrate, coating and lighting can change how a shade appears. We also define the painted areas and any uncoated mating faces, openings or contact points so the finish does not interfere with assembly. Graphics are screen printed at the approved positions. If the artwork extends over a pronounced curve, we check print feasibility before committing to that method.
The first tool trial checks whether the molded pieces fill and release as intended. After any agreed corrections, representative housings are reviewed against drawings and an approved appearance sample. Relevant checks may include the lower joint line, alignment around the control area, critical mating features, painted finish and graphic position. The customer approves a molded and finished reference sample before the first batch moves into regular production.
For repeat orders, YS Rapid coordinates the molded components, finishing, inspection and protective packing as one project. The exact sampling plan and whether the parts ship loose, as grouped sets or assembled are defined in the purchase order. International freight can then be arranged for the agreed destination and shipping terms.
Send us the 3D CAD files and 2D drawings for each plastic component, prototype photos or approved samples, the number of sets per batch, and your expected order frequency. Include any resin or performance requirement, visible-surface standard, color code or physical chip, print artwork, packing preference and delivery location. We can quote tooling and per-set costs separately, and identify the sample-approval scope, finishing costs, production lead time, packing and freight assumptions. The quotation will also state what is included in the approximately 40-day tool-build period.
Upload your 3D and 2D drawings to us, and a quotation will be provided to you within 24 hours. Also our sales engineer will contact you directly regarding your rapid prototype and cnc machinery parts quote to ensure you have received the quotation and to answer your questions.
